FISHERS, Indiana – For nearly 15
years, Dave Argabright’s American Scene column in
National Speed Sport News has entertained and inspired
readers across many generations, becoming one of the
most visible and popular columns in all motorsports.
Witness Productions is preparing to
release "American Scene - a collection," in which
nearly 100 of Argabright’s columns from 1988 to 1997
are gathered in one hardbound volume. The book is
expected to be available in early December.
Argabright’s columns and feature
stories have earned him numerous industry awards,
including an unprecedented four Media Member of the
Year awards from the National Sprint Car Poll. His
popular style focuses on the people and emotions of
the sport, and today he enjoys a strong, loyal
following.
"To be honest, I’m kind of surprised
this book came about," said Argabright. "When all
these columns and stories were written, there was
never any thought of putting them in a book. But the
years just kind of slip past, and all of a sudden you
realize how many old columns are behind you.
"When we started back through some
of the old stories to prepare the book, it became a
lot of fun, because I had forgotten so many things.
Most of all, it reminded me that I’ve encountered some
really interesting characters over the years."
"American Scene" is Argabright’s
second title. In 1999 he penned "Still Wide Open" with
sprint car icon Brad Doty, which became one of the
most successful and critically acclaimed motorsports
books in recent memory.
Despite the passing of several
years, readers will likely remember many of the
stories in "American Scene." Argabright’s
award-winning columns on famous racers and friends, as
well as the little guys behind the scenes, have well
withstood the test of time.
"American Scene" is a hardbound book
of 356 pages, with a foreword by Chris Economaki and
additional commentary by Bob Jenkins. Advance orders
