(November 29, 2001) - Dave Argabright of Fishers,
Indiana, received the National Sprint Car Poll's
prestigious "Outstanding Contribution to the Sport
Award" on Thursday evening at the awards reception at
the Westin Hotel. Argabright, a five-time "Media
Member of the Year" award recipient, was co-emceeing
the affair and was as surprised as anyone in the
banquet hall when the envelope was opened by co-emcee
Pat Sullivan. The personable free-lancer is best-known
for his "American Scene" columns in Chris Economaki's
National Speed Sport News, although his work can also
be seen on TNN: The National Network, Speedvision.com,
and formerly in Open Wheel magazine.
The Outstanding
Contribution Award is the only honor that is voted on
by all members of the three voting panels representing
360-, 410-cubic-inch and non-winged sprint car racing.
Other nominees for the award this year included Emmett
Hahn of the American Sprint Car Series, Dick Jordan of
the United States Auto Club, and Ken Wagner of
Wagtimes. Past recipients of the award have included
such National Sprint Car Hall of Famers as Bert Emick
(1985), the late J.W. Hunt (1986), Earl Baltes (1990),
the late Don Martin (1993), Ted Johnson & Ralph
Capitani (1995), Argabright's "Still Wide Open"
co-author Brad Doty (1997), and Jack Miller (1998).

Polls are official awards programs of the National
